Job Description

Join us in this exciting new role of Head of Product & Proposition, working on a hybrid basis, spending one day in our Hove office a week. You will be: 

  • Leading the delivery of the protection products and proposition strategy. Working with finance, underwriting, claims, servicing and other areas of the business to optimise opportunity and value.
  • Collaboratively working with all distribution channels (Intermediated, Banks & Building Societies, Affinity Partners, Aggregators and Core Direct), Marketing, UW & Claims, Conduct and Operations to continue to design and develop customer relevant products and appropriate propositions to suit target customer needs, ensuring adequate means of distribution.
  • Working with the channel marketing heads to define the go-to–market strategy, helping them understand the product positioning, key benefits and target market.
  • Representing Products to update on current and future Protection product development and assimilate and discuss product related feedback at meetings with distribution partners, strategy meetings, Joint Management Committees and internal Governance Meetings. Represent L&G UK Protection externally to ensure that Retail Protection products and opinions are articulated correctly and positively.
  • Ensuring that all those responsible for product development and management develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the key drivers, challenges, legislative and regulatory issues facing the Insurance market and the impacts of these on both customers, intermediaries and Partners.
  • Leading the development and execution of the Retail Protection portal strategy to ensure that Protection Products are represented correctly and are positioned to maximise opportunities for additional sales.
  • Consumer Duty Undertake regular value for money assessments on all products / propositions in line with group and divisional standards and escalate any fair value concerns to senior management to enable appropriate action to be taken.
  • Taking the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.

 


Qualifications

Knowledge

Desirable: Professional Qualification e.g. Degree or Financial planning qualifications or relevant experience.

  • Very strong knowledge of life and disability products and markets and an expert in protection insurance product and proposition development.
  • Strong awareness of end-to-end processes within Protection insurance
  • Strong regulatory framework understanding including FCA handbooks of principles, rules (PROD rules and Consumer Duty) and guidance (scope and structure).
  • Awareness of proposed changes to regulations or industry practise that would impact upon the team and the ability to comment on, or escalate potential issues.
  • Knowledge of risk management processes, including operational risk policies and loss/weakness identification, capture and reporting. Strategic and inherent risk management and implementation of technical risk policies.
  • Knowledge of competitor firms, market practices, emerging new technologies and models for engaging with customers and the possibilities for benchmarking and networking.

Experience 

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Strong in use of a variety of media to impactfully communicate information through data analysis, presentations, written reports and graphs.
  • Strong drive to innovate to improve customer engagement and outcomes while balancing needs of distribution and commercials for L&G.
  • Experience of analysing data to make informed decisions about product strategies.
