Tax Analyst

Your role at a glance

Provide support to Tax Managers or Finance Managers in the production of tax returns, reporting, claims, and advice including the provision of data and expense analysis, advice and guidance to business managers and operational teams as well as supporting other members of the tax team on business initiatives.

The role will cover all taxes as required including, but not limited to, corporation tax, VAT, employment taxes, and funds / withholding taxes. There is opportunity to maintain or develop a tax technical specialism, within the wider scope of the role, and to study for the Chartered Institute of Taxation qualification if desired.

What you'll be doing

• You will research and analyse key issues and relevant tax law or practice, produce briefings and consultation documents and provide advice, guidance, and tax recommendations to business managers to support the business to meet its tax obligations. 
• You will contribute to the delivery of financial reporting, tax compliance, tax claims and forecasting timetables; data collection, return preparation and processes from around the Group across a range of taxes.
• You will produce tax advice, analysis & computations, provisions, and returns to ensure that the business meets its tax obligations.
• You will liaise with business areas, third parties, consultants and HMRC to understand, communicate and resolve tax issues relevant to the business.
• You will undertake a design role in the development and integration of systems and processes necessary to develop and/or deliver tax systems, processes, external developments, investigations, and processes.
• You will provide advice and guidance to others, make recommendations to more senior staff in the tax department such that the department can meet its commitments and obligations.
• You will provide tax and technical analysis on matters relating to financial control, management and reporting of the relevant business, department or area and process.
• You build and maintain the tax technical knowledge required to deliver the principal accountabilities of the role.

• Accountancy qualification desirable, or with sufficient experience of financial accounting to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.
• Some knowledge of UK Taxes Acts covering Corporation Tax, Income Tax, VAT, NIC and Stamp Duty Land Tax to the extent that they apply to the entities in the Group for which tax responsibility is held.
• Some working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards, UK GAAP and wider financial developments, in particular so far as they concern taxation.

Commercial

• Some knowledge of the general business and financial services environment and regulatory business requirements and its impact on Legal & General's strategy.
• Ability to develop commercial awareness and practical knowledge of each of the Group's businesses and how they interrelate with legal entities and divisions.
• Ability to build a working knowledge of the Group's policies and procedures including the Group’s risk management framework.

Systems and IT

• Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint.
• Experience and capability with IT systems and technology sufficient to utilise (with training) L&G Group’s UK general ledger, management reporting system, and specific tax software packages.

Analytical

• Ability to assimilate complex information, identifies key issues, implications and consequences.
• Ability to review for trends, anticipate problems/omissions and consider potential ways to mitigate them.
• Ability to progress idea/solution through appropriate clarification of objectives/aims/outcomes and by undertaking extra tasks proactively.
• Experience in prioritisation, planning and organisation of multi-task/person assignments.

Communication

• Ability to listen to others and work to understand their viewpoint.
• Experience in preparing clear and concise written or verbal reports that are suitable for their audience.
• Ability to build and develop strong relationships with staff, peers and other contacts within the business and externally.
