Your role at a glance
Are you looking for a summer internship in Credit Rating? One that develops commercial acumen alongside your technical skills?
We’re looking for undergraduates who can answer “yes” to the above for our 2024 Legal and General Credit Rating Summer Internship scheme. If you’re successful, you’ll join one of Legal & General’s well-regarded Investment teams, which plays a pivotal role in our continued success.
Starting 1st July, your internship will last for 8 weeks. This programme is a pipeline for our Graduate Programme (although successful completion of the Summer Programme does not guarantee that a graduate role is available).

Over an 8-week programme starting July 2024 you will be part of a team, working with our colleagues and gaining first-hand experience at working in an Investment Management business. You will learn about the industry, our clients, and our firm. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people and have the chance to add real value to the team you are working with.
Based in the Credit Rating team in Private Credit, your day-to-day will cover learning diverse aspects of financial and business analysis, including an introduction to financial modelling and fundamental credit analysis across a range of sectors, so you can build and develop your opinion of companies operating in the global capital markets. You’ll have access to the key decision makers in LGIM across the Credit and Investment Committees, deal makers, research, portfolio management and transaction teams – a great opportunity for an insight into the full breadth of the Private Credit industry.
All we ask is that you are curious, motivated and have a desire to learn more about a career in Investment Management!

We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:
- On track for a 2.1 Degree in any subject – we are open to all subject backgrounds
- In your penultimate of University (i.e. graduating in 2025)
- Curious, motivated and have a desire to learn more about a career in Investment Management!

LGIM manages fixed income, equity, multi-asset, liability-driven investment, property and alternative solutions on behalf of its clients. Located across the globe, our clients include institutional pension funds, financial institutions, local authorities and sovereign wealth funds. Private Credit provides companies with an alternative source of capital to the public market and is essential for diversifying funding source and delivering specialist financial solutions where “standardised” public offerings do not fit. With only LGIM’s eyes on the investment, forming a credit view – “will the investment pay what it promises” - is more important than ever. The Credit Rating team gives an independent view on that question through financial, business, and structural analysis of transactions, helping the investment teams to structure and invest in the best possible opportunities for our clients. The tools you’ll learn in the Credit Rating team are those essential to all walks of investment across banking, investing, equity and credit.

In brief our recruitment process will include:
- submitting an application for the role (consisting of uploading your CV, answering some specific application questions, and completing information to assess your eligibility based on your A-Level grades and degree) – January*
- online testing and recorded video interview (Behavioural and Cognitive i.e. verbal and numerical reasoning) - you will be invited to complete these straight after submitting your application
- a call with our team to answer any questions you may have about the scheme or the assessment centre - February
- an assessment centre (involving a line manager interview, presentation) – February-March
