The brand with the brolly is choosing today to change tomorrow. Since 1836, we’ve grown to become one of the world's largest asset managers, homebuilders, pension providers and insurance brands.
We’re all here to improve the lives of our customers, build a better society for the long term, and create value for our shareholders - helping to shape a better future for society and the planet.
We need people who share our ambitions, agility and entrepreneurial spirit to help us do it.
Your role at a glance
Are you looking for a summer internship in Credit Rating? One that develops commercial acumen alongside your technical skills?
We’re looking for undergraduates who can answer “yes” to the above for our 2024 Legal and General Credit Rating Summer Internship scheme. If you’re successful, you’ll join one of Legal & General’s well-regarded Investment teams, which plays a pivotal role in our continued success.
Starting 1st July, your internship will last for 8 weeks. This programme is a pipeline for our Graduate Programme (although successful completion of the Summer Programme does not guarantee that a graduate role is available).
Please note, we can only accept 1 application per person across all of our intern programmes. Therefore, please think carefully about the programme you intend to apply for. Your first application will be considered as your only application.
We recruit on a rolling basis and expect this vacancy to close before the deadline. To be in with the best chance of securing a role, please submit your application ASAP.
Over an 8-week programme starting July 2024 you will be part of a team, working with our colleagues and gaining first-hand experience at working in an Investment Management business. You will learn about the industry, our clients, and our firm. You will have the opportunity to develop new skills, meet new people and have the chance to add real value to the team you are working with.
Based in the Credit Rating team in Private Credit, your day-to-day will cover learning diverse aspects of financial and business analysis, including an introduction to financial modelling and fundamental credit analysis across a range of sectors, so you can build and develop your opinion of companies operating in the global capital markets. You’ll have access to the key decision makers in LGIM across the Credit and Investment Committees, deal makers, research, portfolio management and transaction teams – a great opportunity for an insight into the full breadth of the Private Credit industry.
All we ask is that you are curious, motivated and have a desire to learn more about a career in Investment Management!
First and foremost, we are looking for people who embody our behaviours:
- Straightforward - doing what we say and saying what we mean
- Collaborative - working together constructively
- Purposeful – working with pace and energy
We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:
- On track for a 2.1 Degree in any subject – we are open to all subject backgrounds
- In your penultimate of University (i.e. graduating in 2025)
- Curious, motivated and have a desire to learn more about a career in Investment Management!
- Analytical mind-set
- Great communication skills
- Flexible and a team-player
- High levels of energy, dynamism and commitment
- Highly organised with the ability to prioritise effectively
LGIM manages fixed income, equity, multi-asset, liability-driven investment, property and alternative solutions on behalf of its clients. Located across the globe, our clients include institutional pension funds, financial institutions, local authorities and sovereign wealth funds. In order to meet the complex and evolving investment needs of our clients, we focus on remaining at the forefront of investment product innovation and maintaining our reputation as experts across all asset classes.
Private Credit provides companies with an alternative source of capital to the public market and is essential for diversifying funding source and delivering specialist financial solutions where “standardised” public offerings do not fit. With only LGIM’s eyes on the investment, forming a credit view – “will the investment pay what it promises” - is more important than ever. The Credit Rating team gives an independent view on that question through financial, business, and structural analysis of transactions, helping the investment teams to structure and invest in the best possible opportunities for our clients. The tools you’ll learn in the Credit Rating team are those essential to all walks of investment across banking, investing, equity and credit.
We believe that good businesses are built on doing the right thing and strive to do what is best for both our people and our customers. This means enabling you to bring your best self to work by giving you what you need, when you need it.
This is why we’ve designed a process that puts you in control, because we recognise that your time is valuable. At each step, make sure you take time to pause and reflect before progressing to the next, as each subsequent step will ask for a bit more of your time.
We want you to feel comfortable that this process is as fair and inclusive as possible, so please let us know if you have an illness or disability that you think may affect your performance during the process, so that reasonable adjustments can be made.
At each step we’ll give more information and clear instructions on what actions you need to take and how you can prepare.
In brief our recruitment process will include:
- submitting an application for the role (consisting of uploading your CV, answering some specific application questions, and completing information to assess your eligibility based on your A-Level grades and degree) – January*
- online testing and recorded video interview (Behavioural and Cognitive i.e. verbal and numerical reasoning) - you will be invited to complete these straight after submitting your application
- a call with our team to answer any questions you may have about the scheme or the assessment centre - February
- an assessment centre (involving a line manager interview, presentation) – February-March
*Please note we recruit on a rolling basis and expect this vacancy to close before the deadline. To be in with the best chance of securing a role, please submit your application ASAP
