Company Description

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor.

We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.

We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities. Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income.

Our global asset management business provides our clients and partners with complex, responsible investment solutions, working internationally across public and private markets.

Who we are

LGIM Managers (Europe) Limited (“LGIM Europe”) is an authorised UCITS management company and Alternative Investment Fund Manager, based in Ireland. LGIM Europe serves as the EU management company for L&G Asset Management, which is the investment division of Legal & General Group Plc, a company listed on the FTSE 100.

With approximately €300 billion in assets under management and a workforce of around 50 professionals based in Ireland, Italy, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands, joining the team means becoming part of one of Europe’s largest institutional asset managers and a significant global investor. The company offers exposure to a diverse array of funds, regulatory initiatives, and strategic projects, all within a supportive and collaborative environment.

Job Description

We’re recruiting for a Head of Investment Monitoring and Oversight. This is a senior role within LGIM Europe’s Investment Management team. Reporting to the Head of Investments, the team is responsible for meeting applicable oversight obligations for outsourced portfolios and supporting the delivery of L&G’s investment proposition to key European clients

Primarily responsible for the supervision of delegated portfolio managers and subject to CBI approval the role holder will be the appointed Designated Person (DP) for Investment Management (PCF39).

As Designated Person, the role holder acts as the management link between the Board and its delegates and must demonstrate the expertise required to oversee a business of significant scale and complexity.

The role holder will contribute to the delivery of the investment proposition to L&G’s major European clients, including new regulated fund launches and portfolio support for European segregated clients.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Overseeing the fund management of LGIM Europe collective investment schemes (CIS) and client portfolios and ensuring strategies are adhering to client requirements and reporting to the Management Board(s)
  • Supporting the effective implementation of governance framework for European entities, contributing to the development and application of scalable and risk aware oversight processes
  • Engaging with underlying fund managers across asset classes and strategies – including equities, fixed income, index, LDI, money market, multi asset and private assets to ensure the successful delivery of L&G’s investment proposition to our largest European clients
  • Partnering with the L&G Distribution and Client Management Teams as subject matter expert on L&G’s European product platform to strengthen L&G’s profile and maintain growth momentum for L&G in Europe
  • Participating as necessary in cross functional investment related initiatives to enhance range of European regulated funds to improve client opportunities and diversify revenue stream

Regulatory Accountabilities:

In this role you will be acting as Designated Person (DP) for Investment Management (PCF39) and fulfil all relevant requirements under CP86. Including but not limited to:

  • Supporting the board of the Irish entity in discharging its responsibilities through the provisions of reporting, insight and challenge on portfolio management activities in the relevant funds and portfolios
  • Delivering investment support for the full life cycle of UCITS and AIFs and the onboarding of new segregated mandates: approving the investment objective, policies and restrictions of each Sub-Fund or mandate; verifying on a periodic basis that the investment objective, policies and restrictions of each sub-fund are being properly and effectively implemented and complied with by the Investment Manager
  • Approving and reviewing on a periodic basis the adequacy of the Investment Manager’s procedures for undertaking investment decisions for each Sub-Fund, ensuring that such decisions are consistent with the approved investment strategies

Who we’re looking for:

  • Experienced investment professional with experience gained through relevant roles in an investment analysis/portfolio management, product specialist, risk or investment governance capacity
  • Client facing background with an effective and confident communication style and strong presentation skills with the ability to communicate complex analysis and sophisticated ideas in a concise and understandable fashion, both externally and internally, both in writing and in person
  • An ability to exert influence, develop senior internal relationships across all levels such that outcomes can be achieved via a partnership style approach with key stakeholders
  • The ability to work without day-to-day direction is important and the role holder will take a proactive approach to the establishment of procedures, monitoring, governance, risk identification and escalation
  • Strong risk mitigation and compliance driven mind-set balanced with need to be flexible, adaptive and empathetic when dealing with senior professionals from across the business
  • Proven track record working in investment management, preferably in an oversight or front office role, experience of board engagement desirable
  • Excellent numerical aptitude and Excel skills such that the individual can supplement supplied portfolio, risk and performance analytics with their own quantitative assessment
  • The highest standards of fairness, integrity and discretion recognizing that they may periodically be in receipt of privileged information

Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:

  • Base salary range: €120,000 - €150,000 + car allowance
  • The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
  • Generous pension contribution
  • Life assurance
  • Healthcare Plan (permanent employees only)
  • At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
  • Competitive family leave
  • There are many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online

Additional Information

At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all.
