Inside our 2026 Summer Internship Programme

Posting date: 08 Jul 2026

In June, we welcomed over 40 Summer Interns to L&G for the start of their eight-week programme.

Based across London, Hove, Dublin and Cardiff, this year’s interns are joining teams across the business, with two also starting in Asia. Over the coming weeks, they’ll build experience, confidence and connections by working on projects and learning from people across L&G.

For many students, an internship is the most practical way to understand whether a career path is right for them. It gives you the chance to try the work, meet the people behind the roles and see how everything fits together day to day.

Supporting future talent

The scheme forms part of our Future Talent programme, where we provide meaningful opportunities for diverse and high-performing young people.

It’s part of our long-term approach to building talent. Alongside our wider business strategy as long-term investors, we invest in people too. That means creating an environment where early careers talent can develop the skills, experience and confidence to become future leaders.

Some interns may go on to receive offers for our 2027 graduate scheme, and a number of this year’s cohort previously took part in Spring Start.

A programme designed to give you a real view of working life

Our summer internship scheme is designed for penultimate year undergraduate students. Over eight weeks, interns join a business area and get stuck into real work, building a clearer picture of what a graduate role could look like.

The programme includes:

  • A Future Talent induction day

  • Weekly learning events

  • A midpoint workshop

  • End point presentations, where interns share a project they have worked on

  • Ongoing support from teams, graduates and the Future Talent team

It gives structure, but also space to learn by doing. You’re not just observing. You’re contributing, asking questions and building experience that carries beyond the internship.

A broad mix of roles, teams and backgrounds

This year’s interns are joining teams across Asset Management, Institutional Retirement, Retail and Group Functions, working in areas such as investment, actuarial, marketing, strategy, risk, data and technology.

Careers in financial services aren’t limited to one degree or background. Our interns bring different ways of thinking, from technical and analytical skills through to creativity and communication.

The programme helps you see how those strengths translate into roles across the business, and where you might fit long term. It’s also a two-way experience. Interns bring fresh perspectives, curiosity and skills that help us learn too, from asking good questions to sharing new ways of thinking about areas like AI and technology.

Starting with connection and context

The programme kicked off with a Future Talent induction day, designed to help interns settle in and start building their network.

Across the day, interns:

  • Heard from senior leaders in a panel session

  • Took part in graduate roundtables and asked career questions

  • Joined an Inclusion & Wellbeing session

  • Heard a senior welcome and business update

  • Learned about business etiquette and how to give and receive feedback

  • Connected with other interns through breakout sessions and discussions

It’s designed to give early exposure to different perspectives across L&G, and to help interns feel confident speaking to people at all levels, asking questions and connecting what they learn along the way.

Learning beyond the day job

Alongside their placements, interns take part in weekly learning sessions and a midpoint workshop, giving regular space to reflect, build skills and share experiences.

They’ll also present their work at the end of the programme, giving them the chance to step back, communicate their ideas and see the impact of what they’ve contributed.

A route into future careers

For students thinking about what comes next, an internship can help answer the questions that are hardest to figure out on paper.

  • What kind of work do you enjoy?
  • What environment suits you?
  • Where could you see yourself building a career?

For some, the internship can lead directly to a graduate role. For others, it offers clarity, direction and a stronger sense of what they want to explore next.

Thinking about your next step?

Our summer internship is designed for penultimate year undergraduate students who want to gain experience and explore where their degree could take them.

Internships typically run for eight weeks and are offered across a range of areas, including Accounting, Actuarial, Asset Management, Investment, Marketing, Risk and Compliance, and Sustainability.

If you’re thinking about a career in financial services, it’s one of the clearest ways to see what that could look like at L&G.
