Company Description

Legal & General (L&G) is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor.

We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, and strive to build a better society, while improving the lives of our customers and creating value for shareholders.

We are one of the world’s largest asset managers and provide powerful asset origination capabilities.

Together, these underpin our retirement and protection solutions: we are an international player in pension risk transfer, in UK and US life insurance, and in UK workplace pensions and retirement income.

Our global asset management business provides our clients and partners with complex, responsible investment solutions, working internationally across public and private markets.

Who we are

We are one of Europe’s largest asset managers and a major global investor across public and private markets, with £1.118 trillion in assets under management.

Asset management is a critical driver of our Group strategy. The business aims to work synergistically with our Institutional Retirement and Retail divisions to benefit our clients and customers, and deliver enhanced shareholder returns.

Our investment philosophy and processes are focused on creating value over the long term. We believe that incorporating financially material sustainability criteria, when relevant to our clients, can create value and drive positive change. This reflects L&G’s purpose: ‘Investing for the long term. Our futures depend on it.’

Job Description

About the L&G Year in Industry Placement

Ready to spend a year building your skills, confidence and professional network?

As a Year in Industry student at L&G, you'll join a year long programme and become part of our Future Talent community from day one. Our induction will help you settle in, meet other placement students and graduates, learn about the business and start building connections across L&G. As part of the wider Future Talent cohort, you'll also have opportunities to take part in learning and development events alongside graduates throughout the programme.

Throughout your placement, you'll be supported by the Future Talent team, your line manager, experienced colleagues and your peers. You'll gain hands on experience, develop new skills and learn from people across the business. You'll also have the option to take part in networking and social events, helping you build relationships and grow your network across L&G.

You'll be part of a team, contributing to meaningful work while developing your skills, knowledge and experience.

About the team you’ll join

The Asset Allocation team manages a range of multi-asset funds for pension schemes and retail investors. You’ll work alongside economists, strategists, portfolio managers and investment specialists, learning how research, market analysis, risk and performance monitoring support investment decisions. You’ll contribute to analysis, portfolio work and client communications while building your technical and professional skills.

What you could be doing in this role

  • Contributing to research and analysis that informs asset allocation decisions and portfolio positioning
  • Working with colleagues on live investment questions and daily market developments
  • Supporting the day-to-day management of multi-asset portfolios
  • Contributing to client communications about portfolios and investment activity
  • Taking ownership of longer-term projects that build your quantitative and investment skills
  • Analysing financial and time-series data using qualitative and quantitative techniques
  • Using Python and other tools used by the investment team to support analysis
  • Presenting your findings and developing your communication skills

As your confidence grows, you'll have the opportunity to take on new challenges, build your skills and make a real impact.

We believe that talent comes from many different backgrounds, experiences and ways of thinking. That's why we're committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected and supported to be their best. We encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every requirement in the advert. We're interested in the strengths you'll bring and your willingness to learn.

Joining L&G is more than spending a year with us. It's an opportunity to gain valuable experience, develop new skills and build strong foundations for your future career.

Qualifications

You don’t need prior industry experience to apply. We’ll ask you to meet the role requirements, and we’re looking for people who are ready to learn, contribute and keep building the skills that will help them succeed on the programme. These include:

Essential

  • On track for a 2.1
  • A penultimate-year student on a four-year course, graduating in 2028
  • Grade B or above in A-level Maths
  • GCSE Maths and English Grade 5
  • Are open to learning about new topics, ideas and ways of working
  • Enjoy finding solutions and learning from challenges
  • Can work effectively with others and learn from different perspectives
  • Are willing to share ideas, ask questions and learn from feedback
  • Care about doing a good job and continuing to improve
  • Are willing to develop ways of organising their work and managing different priorities
  • Some coding experience

Desirable

  • Familiarity with Python and Microsoft Excel
