Your role at a glance
Responsible for the quarterly group tax reporting and preparation of the consolidated tax disclosures
for the statutory accounts under IFRS. This role also includes other regulatory reporting
responsibilities such as Solvency II tax reporting and CbCR.
Additionally this role is responsible for the tax compliance for a number of Group Head Office
companies and supports the wider tax compliance and reporting function as required.
It is anticipated that this role will support other projects as required, particularly from a reporting,
technology, data, and process perspective.
What you'll be doing
- You will be responsible for the production of the consolidated tax disclosures and associated briefing materials under IFRS SII for the Group and for L&G’s principal insurance company LGAS.
- You will carry out quarterly reporting and forecasting timetables in conjunction with Group External Reporting and Group Performance Teams.
- You will lead on technical tax accounting matters as they pertain to Group Reporting, building, or maintaining a good knowledge of IAS 12 and other relevant accounting standards, including the application to Solvency II tax reporting.
- You will be responsible for completion of the corporation tax computations and returns (using Alphatax software) for the Group Head Office companies and responding to HMRC queries. Expense analysis for Group Head office companies, including review of provisions held at Group level. Review of entity tax disclosures for the statutory accounts.
- You will prepare and/or review of the Group’s share-based payments workings for deferred and current tax, the former prepared by accounting teams.
- You will produce the Group’s annual CbCR report and Pillar II “safe harbour” calculations, oversight of required notifications and support with data requirements for the implementation of Pillar II.
- You will build knowledge to become SME in respect of the Onestream tax consolidation module to support Business Units with their tax submissions.
- You will support the Chief Tax Officer and Head of Tax Operations with tax projects as they arise. Support other members of the tax team with ad hoc queries, projects and transactions as required. Provide tax accounting input into advisory papers as appropriate.
- You will liaise with key finance and business contacts to build networks to ensure smooth management and communication of the reporting process. Represent Group Tax across the business and become the key point of liaison for reporting matters. Lead on Business Partnering with the Group External Reporting team.
- Ensure all activities are carried out in line with our Treating Customers Fairly accountability.
- Qualified Accountant desirable, otherwise with sufficient experience of
- financial accounting to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.
- Member or fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation desirable, otherwise
- with sufficient tax experience to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.
Knowledge:
- Statutory and regulatory legislation
- Knowledge of UK Taxes Acts, specifically in relation to corporation tax to the extent that they apply to the companies in the group for which tax responsibility held.
- Knowledge of IAS 12 and other tax aspects of UK GAAP and IFRS.
- Develops knowledge of SII reporting requirements of the PRA and those of other regulatory bodies where appropriate.
- Develops understanding of the key concepts which drive regulation within our markets.
Business/Commercial:
- Understanding of the general business and financial services environment and regulatory business requirements and its impact on Legal & General's strategy.
- Develops practical knowledge of each of the Group's businesses and how they interrelate including a knowledge of the operational structures of senior management and their reporting lines.
- Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the Group's policies and procedures including the Group’s risk management framework.
- Develops and maintains a commercial awareness of all businesses and products offered within the L&G Group.
Reporting requirements
- Ability to manage the production of both internal and external financial reporting documentation.
- Systems and IT
- Develop knowledge of L&G Group’s Consolidation System and UK general ledger.
- Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office products in particular Excel,
- Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Detailed application of the department’s specific tax software packages.

- Communicate technical issues in a clear, simple manner to a wide audience.
- Prepared to listen to others and work to understand their viewpoint.
- Ability to create and deliver clear and concise written or verbal reports.
