Solution Architect - Assurance

Group Finance’s Technology Governance team is currently looking to recruit a new Solution Architect who will sit on the assurance side of the team. This role will see you working closely with third party technical suppliers to identify and check potential risks around working relationships.

You will be responsible for reviewing solutions end to end to ensure that the right artifacts are in place and adhering to group frameworks, pulling out any potential risks and evaluating them before signing them off.

What you’ll be doing

• Ensuring the solutions designed, developed, and deployed are fit for purpose and fit for use, meet the business requirements, and adhere to quality standards, delivering value within cost constraints.
• Leading the analysis of technology solution options considering associated costs, risks and showing compatibility to Legal and General requirements.
• Communicating solution designs, key design decisions and methodologies used with interested parties and stakeholders. 
• Supporting effective decision making by governance and assurance functions including the Design Authority (DA).
• Overseeing, leading, and driving solution development including implementation engagement as needed.
• Applying knowledge of technology options and survey external market landscape for solution insights, direction, and vendors, as required.
• Assessing packaged solutions in partnership with the business, IT procurement and Managed Service Providers.
• Ensuring key architectural artefacts are produced that enable due diligence to be conducted effectively.
• Managing submissions with governance or assurance processes as required.
• Collaborating across disciplines within Divisions and across the whole of L&G to align architecture principles, processes, frameworks, and communities that reduce risk and deliver shareholder value.
• Identifying and championing opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement in the strategic application of technology

• TOGAF or similar certification is desirable
• Related degree is desirable or demonstrable equivalent experience
• ITIL certification would be an advantage
• Demonstrable knowledge of design and architectural patterns, IT industry standards and IT governance
• Performing technology capability maturity assessments
• Knowledge of either; Finance Systems, Actuarial Systems or the Insurance industry
• Experience in leading solution architecture across mid to large projects and cloud deployed solutions (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS)
• Experience of waterfall and agile delivery paradigms
• Ability to develop and project a positive image of the IT function and company through interpersonal, written and verbal communications to a wide range of audiences
• Proven ability to build successful working relationships and networks
• Strong experience in at least 3 disciplines - business, information, solution or technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations in a multi-tier environment
• Experience of being a thought leader on Solution Architecture and able to paint a compelling image of the future IT capability and its desirability
• Working in regulated industry including FCA, PRA
• Predictive analytics and business intelligence/analytics
