Job Description

We are looking for a seasoned software engineer to develop and support the actuarial analysis for the LGR division, including developing solutions in python, JavaScript and delivering against product roadmap. The ideal candidate will work to lead members of the team, platform engineers and vendors to design, build, test and deploy solutions or roll out vendor products to fulfil user demands.

What you will be doing 

  • Leading and mentoring members of the team to define and scope configuration, interfacing and enhancement work with the vendors, platform engineers, project managers, financial modelling developers and release manager
  • Ensuring analysis and requirements are detailed and captured to implement solutions right first time, tracking changes to requirements and impact analysis to timings and plans
  • Owning and driving business analysis; leading design, building and delivering of projects across varied architecture, operating systems, vendors and product lines
  • Building and maintaining day to day relationship with vendors, infrastructure suppliers, support teams to ensure timely analysis and resolution of production issues
  • Delivering innovative and novel ideas for software and architecture for line management review, keeping up to date with latest technology and code advances
  • Performing design and code review ensure development standards are met
  • Leading projects from inception to production release and ongoing maintenance
  • Ensuring that the principles of Conduct Risk are always embedded into your day to day operations to deliver good customer outcomes. Ensuring that all business processes and internal controls within your role are designed and performed in a way that delivers good customer outcomes (TCF) and demonstrates effective management of Conduct Risk

Qualifications

  • Degree level or equivalent, in a technical or numerate field desirable.
  • Proven ability to address and use initiative to deliver solutions to technical and business problems
  • Follow test driven development meeting coding standards and best practices to deliver solutions that meet customer needs
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycle, including Agile philosophy, Scrum methodology, Continuous Integration and Continues Delivery
  • Practical knowledge of automated unit test design (Selenium), DevOps principles and practices
  • Knowledge of advanced python libraries such as pandas, numpy, xarray, dask, mathplotlib, sqlite, SQLAlchemy or similar
  • Ability to estimate work independently, work with senior team members to estimate larger projects that require infrastructure, vendor product and custom code changes Knowledge of infrastructure and software design patterns
  • Experience of leading projects is expected
  • Python and C# are the primary languages used; candidates with experience in any of Python, C#, Java, C++, VBA or any other modern programming language will be considered for an exceptional candidate
  • Front end development in Java Script, web framework (Angular, React) or similar python framework (Flask, Django)
  • Usage of advanced software engineering concepts such as concurrency, hashing and algorithmic complexity is advantages
  • Proven experience of software or database systems development and support with exposure to project life cycles, complex product installation, customisation and commissioning
  • Proven usage of relational databases (Oracle, MS SQL Server (SSMS, SSIS)), performance tuning, sizing or non-relational databases (MongoDB)
  • Sound documentation and communication skills in a client / customer facing environment
  • Source control, issue management software, and continuous integration software (Perforce, git, JIRA, Jenkins)
