Legal & General is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, aiming to build a better society for the long term by investing our customers’ money in things that make life better for everyone and create value for our shareholders.
Our Group Functions provide the services that all areas of the business need. This requires a talented and diverse team behind the scenes, who enable everyone at L&G to do what they do best.
Joining us means helping to improve the lives of our customers and contributing to the success of the business every day.
Legal & General is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect to lead the architecture, design, and development of our comprehensive monitoring and observability toolset. This pivotal role involves supporting multiple product and service teams on a fractional basis, working closely with architects, product owners, and engineers across the organisation.
The ideal candidate will possess an in-depth understanding of L&G’s infrastructure, policies, and standards, and will leverage this expertise to empower teams to make swift, informed decisions. This role is crucial in ensuring our observability toolset remains scalable, secure, and reliable. The successful candidate will provide strategic recommendations and collaborate with teams to ensure the seamless implementation of monitoring solutions.
What you'll be doing:
- Spearheading the design of monitoring and observability across multiple teams, ensuring alignment with Legal & General’s broader technology architecture and strategy to support business objectives. Your leadership will drive innovation and excellence
- Designing and implementing mechanisms for rapid, delegated architectural decision-making within product and service teams, preventing architecture decisions from delaying customer delivery. Empowering teams to make swift, impactful decisions
- Developing and effectively communicating strategies, solution designs, key design decisions, and approaches to stakeholders, creating roadmaps, patterns, and standards as necessary to ensure adherence to agreed architectures. Inspiring clarity and collaboration across the organisation
- Serving as an authority on Legal & General’s infrastructure policies, standards, and frameworks, providing pragmatic advice to teams on their application to enable swift progress. Being the guiding force that helps teams navigate challenges with confidence
- Leading the assessment and decision-making process for new technology and infrastructure choices, leveraging expert knowledge of the observability landscape to guide teams in making optimal decisions for Legal & General. Championing the adoption of cutting-edge solutions
- Determining when decisions should be escalated to organisation-wide architectural governance forums, ensuring that only necessary decisions are elevated. Streamlining processes and keeping the momentum going
Who we're looking for:
- Expertise in monitoring and observability technologies, including networks, Cloud (AWS and Azure), data centers, instrumentation, application performance, and capacity management
- Comprehensive knowledge of infrastructure technologies across hosting, networks, applications, middleware, end-user computing, and information security
- Experience with Service Management Frameworks, FinOps, and Enterprise Architecture Tooling.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing monitoring and observability solutions using diverse vendor technologies
- Experience in large-scale instrumentation and observability programs, including managing third-party suppliers and communicating solutions to technical and business users
- Strong background in coordinating and delivering large architecture projects with multiple stakeholders
- Experience mentoring less experienced architects and involving them in architecture initiatives
- Ability to build consensus for design decisions, balancing quality with time and cost, and finding creative solutions to issues
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
- The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
- Generous pension contribution
- Life assurance
- Private medical insurance (permanent employees only)
- At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
- Competitive family leave
- Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice
- There are the many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
- In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart
