Job Description

Actuarial work is central to ensuring a profitable, well run insurance business and your work will support the success of a FTSE 100 company with a focus on inclusive capitalism to build a better society. Our Actuaries work throughout the business measuring, predicting and managing areas of the business with the aim of giving its customers ‘value for money’. As part of our graduate scheme, you will rotate through different business areas to build up a breadth of knowledge and become a well-rounded actuary. Your first placement will be in Hove; however, every 18-24 months you will rotate through different teams and office locations, developing not only your professional network but also your actuarial expertise.

Our Graduate Programme has been designed to give you the fundamental experience and skill set to excel at Legal and General.  You’ll join with a cohort of graduates and take part in our thoughtfully designed Legal and General Future Talent Induction, providing you with insights about our business and helping you connect with your new peers to grow your professional network.

In this role, you will join us on a full-time permanent basis and receive on the job training and coaching from your line manager and team to help you expand on both your business acumen and quantitative and qualitative skills.  Alongside this you’ll study for an industry recognised professional qualification from the Institute And Faculty of Actuaries. Combined, these will fully equip you to be successful in your role, with the knowledge and skills required to apply to real world business challenges.

During the programme you will experience multiple aspects of actuarial work such as:

  • Pricing: Perform actuarial investigations and calculations to support pricing decisions and create bespoke quotations for large schemes.
  • Risk analysis: Manage the production of regular experience investigations for our products in order to understand the impact of changes in mortality, morbidity, expenses and persistency.
  • Regulatory reporting: Deliver the company and statutory financial reporting results to tight deadlines, including the supporting commentary.
  • Modelling: developing and maintaining actuarial models, code, and software to solve problems and ensure that decision making is based on robust figures.
  • Communication to senior stakeholders: Summarise the performance of insurance products or the results of an investigation to present to senior management
  • Marketing: Support actuaries in product development, commercial deals and pricing innovations.

Qualifications

We are looking for people with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn. We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:

  • 2.1 degree in a numerate subject
  • Strong analytical skills and great communication skills
  • Someone flexible who is also a team-player
  • A highly organised individual, who has the ability to prioritise effectively

Additional Information

The Legal & General study package is designed to give you the opportunity to progress quickly through the actuarial exams, with paid study days, study materials, tutorials from external providers and professional fees included.

Whatever your role, we reward ability, performance and attitude with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Our employees have a wide range of benefits including a generous pension scheme, life assurance, 25 days’ holiday, private medical insurance, discretionary performance related bonuses, a variety of share schemes, discounts at both a huge range of high street stores and our own great products. Your hard work will be rewarded when you join us.
