Legal & General is a leading UK financial services group and major global investor. We’ve been safeguarding people’s financial futures since 1836, aiming to build a better society for the long term by investing our customers’ money in things that make life better for everyone and create value for our shareholders.
We look after around 700,000 institutional customers who have their retirement benefits secured with us. Our Retail division helps people enjoy a more colourful retirement, both directly and through their employers, including Lifetime Mortgages, Retirement Interest Only Mortgages and financial advice on our range of lending products. We’re also one of Europe’s largest asset managers, providing clients and partners with complex, responsible investment solutions, across public and private markets.
Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to earn while you learn?
The L&G Actuarial Graduate scheme has been designed to help you reach your potential. You will develop your skill set, gain valuable work experience and complete a fully funded professional qualification, all whilst earning a competitive salary with access to outstanding employee benefits.
With support every step of the way and access to core skills training, you will contribute to the success of a team and be supported by a line manager with Actuarial experience. As part of a cohort of graduates, you will also have the opportunity to connect with your peers and colleagues though networking opportunities and social events.
Please note this role is part of a rotational programme and the first rotation will be based in Hove. This means your second rotation will be based in London and you will continue to rotate until you qualify.
What you'll be doing
Actuarial work is central to ensuring a profitable, well run insurance business and your work will support the success of a FTSE 100 company with a focus on building a better society. Our Actuaries work throughout the business measuring, predicting and managing areas of the business with the aim of giving its customers ‘value for money’. As part of our graduate scheme, you will rotate through different business areas to build up a breadth of knowledge and become a well-rounded actuary. Your first placement will be in Hove; however, every 18-24 months you will rotate through different teams and office locations, developing not only your professional network but also your actuarial expertise.
Our Graduate Programme has been designed to give you the fundamental experience and skill set to excel at Legal and General. In this role, you will join us on a full-time permanent basis and receive on the job training and coaching from your line manager and team to help you expand on both your business acumen and quantitative and qualitative skills. Alongside this you’ll study for an industry recognised professional qualification from the Institute And Faculty of Actuaries.
During the programme you will experience multiple aspects of actuarial work such as:
- Pricing: Perform actuarial investigations and calculations to support pricing decisions and create bespoke quotations for large schemes.
- Risk analysis: Manage the production of regular experience investigations for our products in order to understand the impact of changes in mortality, morbidity, expenses and persistency.
- Regulatory reporting: Deliver the company and statutory financial reporting results to tight deadlines, including the supporting commentary.
- Modelling: developing and maintaining actuarial models, code, and software to solve problems and ensure that decision making is based on robust figures.
- Communication to senior stakeholders: Summarise the performance of insurance products or the results of an investigation to present to senior management
- Marketing: Support actuaries in product development, commercial deals and pricing innovations.
We are looking for people with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn. We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:
- 2.1 degree in a numerate subject
- Strong analytical skills and great communication skills
- Someone flexible who is also a team-player
- A highly organised individual, who has the ability to prioritise effectively
Please note that this role is based in Hove and requires some in person working at our Hove office, as part of our hybrid working model. If you do not currently live within a commutable distance to the Hove office, you would need to relocate and unfortunately we cannot provide financial support to do this.
Whatever your role, we reward performance and behaviour with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Here are some of the benefits we offer:
- The opportunity to participate in our annual, performance-related bonus plan and valuable share schemes
- Generous pension contribution
- Life assurance
- Private medical insurance (permanent employees only)
- At least 25 days holiday, plus public holidays, 26 days after 2 years’ service. There’s also the option to buy and sell holiday
- Competitive family leave
- Participate in our electric car scheme, which offers employees the option to hire a brand-new electric car through tax efficient salary sacrifice
- There are the many discounts we offer – both for our own products and at a range of high street stores and online
- In 2023, some of our workspaces were redesigned. Our offices are great spaces to connect and collaborate and have your wellbeing at the heart
