Job Description

Your role at a glance

 

The Financial Control team is responsible for ensuring an appropriate control environment is maintained across the Legal & General Group. The role holder will be responsible for supporting the Financial Control Lead and Senior Managers so that the Financial Control Framework (FCF) is operating effectively and efficiently across the annual reporting cycle. The role will require engagement with stakeholders from across the divisions and Group functions, including divisional and Group Finance senior teams.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

You will be working alongside the Financial Control Leads and Senior Managers, ensure that key elements of FCF are operating effectively over divisions and/or functional areas with specific responsibility. Specifically:

  • Risk assessment validation.
  • Overseeing BAU deliverables, task scheduling, ensuring the work the team completes is of the highest standard with accuracy and attention to detail a key driver. Do this by reviewing and signing-off key deliverables and managing individual capability so that the team work effectively and efficiently, with prompt resolution of issues.
  • Agreement and rating of deficiencies, as well as associated remediation plans.
  • Reporting to key stakeholders.
  • Oversight of the group end-to-end attestation process.
  • Engage with key stakeholders as to facilitate smooth delivery.

You will support the FCF control business partner over divisions and/or functional areas with specific responsibility to:

  • Supports all queries with the relevant team / division.
  • Supports the relevant pack for divisional committee / CFO.
  • Provide administration support for new members in the team.

You will operate as a financial reporting audit technical expert in the Group.

  • Ensure technical financial reporting areas are appropriately reviewed and challenged by supporting divisions/functions in understanding the impacts.
  • Provide support and training to other members of the Group Financial Control team and key stakeholders within the Group.

You will ensure completion of the FCF requirements with respect to walkthrough performance, Design & Operating Effectiveness:

  • Support the performance of walkthrough and complete DE assessments.
  • Support the identification of relevant risks and controls.
  • Escalation to team lead of any rescheduling and delays in evidence.
  • Support the completion of final risk and control risk list.
  • Support the completion of required templates.
  • Update of documentation and the OSX, the L&G GRC application.
  • Support queries of the Operating effectiveness team.
  • Escalation of delays to the Head of Financial Control.
  • Raise and record appropriate issues from the Design Effectiveness exercise.
  • Ensure that all issues and actions are captured on OSX accurately and completely.
  • Provide support with the issue MI and resolution.
  • Support the production of relevant MI for the committee including FCF, EUCs and Model.
  • Support the appropriate pack for the respective divisions.

 

 

 


Qualifications

  • Professional auditing, accounting, or actuarial qualification or equivalent business experience required.
  • Broad understanding of the Legal & General Group and its products
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting risk and control frameworks
  • Strong conceptual and practical understanding of the risks and processes associated with insurance and asset management businesses.
  • Ability to critically challenge technical requirements and to think outside the box to find innovative, practical and commercial solutions to problems.
  • Highly persuasive on technical matters through written and verbal communications
  • Extensive experience with IFRS17 risk and control assessments.
  • Ability to understand complex processes and capture them accurately.
  • Ability to challenge existing processes and controls.
  • Ability to work under pressure towards tight deadlines.
  • Ability to create and deliver clear documentation.
  • Open, actively seek to discuss issues and share information.
