Senior Investment Analyst

Legal & General Reinsurance is a Bermuda-based specialist life reinsurer. We are the global reinsurance hub of Legal & General Group Plc, a multinational financial services company established in 1836, and we provide life reinsurance solutions to clients in the UK, Europe, the US and Canada. 

We’re recruiting for a Senior Investment Analyst to join us in our Bermuda Office. The Senior Investment Analyst will primarily assist with portfolio construction and risk pricing to support our growing ambitions in the Canadian and Dutch PRT markets. Given the highly analytical nature of the role, they will also be involved in developing our portfolio optimisation, ALM, and balance sheet risk models. Supporting the investment team in collateral management, new asset sourcing, and MI production will be a key objective.

What you'll be doing  

• Producing investment strategies for assets backing liabilities (including new business) in line with the company’s strategic asset allocation, as well as analysis to support proposed solutions
• Performing analysis and developing solutions to understand and price risks related to new business transactions.
• Ensuring investment models used to price new business transactions remain up to date and provide day-to-day investment support to the wider new business team, including for transaction execution
• Supporting in further developing ALM models, ensuring balance sheet risks are well understood and quantified. This will reflect multiple views of the balance sheet including IFRS, Solvency II and the Bermudian Economic Balance Sheet (“EBS”)
• Assisting with risk monitoring and management processes for all the key balance sheet risks L&G Re is exposed to, including interest rate, currency and inflation
• Providing support in producing relevant management information on L&G Re’s investments and risk exposures in a timely manner and disseminating them to the appropriate internal and external stakeholders
• Developing and maintaining robust documentation and audit trails for investment models and processes consistent with Group requirements and processes
• Contributing to execution, business planning, reporting and ad hoc business requests and projects as required

Who we're looking for:

• Relevant work experience in an investment role, ideally having worked with fixed income, derivatives and alternative assets
• A minimum of 1 CFA exam passed with a view to completing the remaining exams, or successful completion of a minimum of 7 actuarial exams, preferably with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries or the Canadian Institute of Actuaries, with demonstrated progression to attain full actuarial accreditation
• Strong technical/quantitative skills that can be applied to portfolio optimisation, ALM, and risk modelling
• Good working knowledge of derivatives used to hedge interest rate, inflation and currency risks
• A proven ability to review and validate work independently, demonstrating attention to detail through the quality and accuracy of deliverables
• Exceptional Excel and VBA skills and some familiarity with investment data terminals such as Bloomberg. Knowledge of Power BI and Power Queries is desirable
• Good understanding of global markets and ability to communicate market views/themes in discussions to support investment proposals
• Demonstrated organization skills with the ability to act independently, as well as part of a team, problem solve and apply sound judgement and pragmatism to achieve business aims
• Working knowledge of the annuity pricing process for individual and bulk purchase annuity business
• Some working knowledge of insurance reporting and regulatory frameworks, including Solvency II, IFRS and EBS, as well as the wider business, including the economic, market and regulatory environment in which L&G Re operates
