Job Description

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do within Retail Annuities and the Customer Payroll team is no exception. We process the payments to our customers, ensuring that all payments and deductions are paid accurately and on time. We have many payroll processes and controls to ensure this, so we protect our customers from unnecessary hardship either due to incorrect or late payments, or inaccurate reporting that could affect customers in other ways.

The job holder will monitor and report on related reconciliations and wider controls within Customer Payroll, ensuring we have visibility that they’re effectively managed to the agreed tolerances and adhere to the agreed L&G and legislative deadlines.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing and ensure the agreed reconciliation KPIs are being adhered too, working with the reconciliation SMEs, reporting the statistics to the payroll leadership team and wider Retail Annuities team where necessary. Creating and circulating the KPI dashboard to agreed timelines for payroll leadership and wider leadership / committee packs and representing Customer Payments at appropriate forums and meetings
  • Supporting with and ensuring control attestations and clearly evidenced and documented, keep a record of any control failures, risk events and issues to ensure accuracy in the controls and drive on actions for identified mitigations and improvements.
  • Supporting the shaping, development and continuous improvement of controls frameworks across our related core processes and systems. While assisting with testing of design, implementation and operational effectiveness of controls within customer payroll.
  • Co-ordinating the creation of all reconciliation and operational process guides, to ensure clear and up to date documentation.  Manage EUC's and coordinate regular reviews with criticality assessments.
  • Ensuring reporting on outstanding reconciliations is completed in a timely basis in order to determine the level of exposure on outstanding items for balance sheet management. Includes managing, escalating key risks and delivering controls, in line with the risk management framework and regulations, to minimise the impact on retail annuities.
  • Ensuring that the principles of Conduct Risk are embedded into your day-to-day operations to deliver good customer outcomes at all times. Ensuring that all business processes and internal controls within your role are designed and performed in a way that delivers good customer outcomes and demonstrates effective management of Conduct Risk. 
  • Supporting colleagues and be an advocate for risk culture best practice, sharing knowledge and guidance. Development and maintenance of good working relationships with our 1st line risk team and complaints team to understand and drive accuracy KPI's and best practice.
  • Supporting the ongoing work relating to our overall operational resilience.
    Assisting G5 in incident & audit management, project work activity which relates to the risk, governance and compliance elements within customer Payroll. Including acting as cover/delegate for aspects of the G5 role.

Qualifications

What we're looking for

  • Good end-to-end understanding payroll processes & reconciliation management (essential)
  • Basic payroll knowledge and reasoning (essential)
  • Basic accounting knowledge and reasoning (essential)
  • Risk and control management (essential)
  • Pensions payroll legislation (desirable)
  • Good understanding of compliance reviews/audits (desirable)
  • experience of payroll processing and reconciliations
  • Experience of controlling and reporting on payroll reconciliations and processes
  • Excel intermediate to advanced
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Good ability to produce reporting and dashboards
  • Effective Presentation techniques
  • Lead by example in demonstrating L&G Behaviours and risk culture
