We are currently recruiting a Customer Underwriter to join our growing team.
In this role, you will review customer applications to assess whether we can offer life or health insurance.
What you'll be doing
- Accurately assessing and documenting life and disability risks and decide which terms, if any, can be offered up to the value based on your autonomy level.
- Addressing customer requirements in an efficient and professional manner and ensure that the agreed service levels are met or exceeded so that exceptional customer experience is delivered.
- Ensuring any requests for further information are appropriate and accurate and commensurate with the risk being assessed, ensuring the customer journey is not impacted unnecessarily.
- Identifying complaints and ensure they are acted upon quickly and root causes highlighted to ensure compliance with complaints response time limits.
- Ensuring appropriate management information is captured and maintained as required, from which accurate communications can be delivered and effective business decisions made.
- Taking ownership of maintaining an excellent knowledge and understanding of legislative and regulatory requirements, e.g. breach knowledge and adherence to L&G Company Policy and Procedures, including following L&G TCF policy, to minimise risk to L&G and its customers.
- Communicating with internal, external customers and third parties via all methods of communication in a professional and efficient manner ensuring customer satisfaction is maximised and expectations met by obtaining and giving the correct information.
- Understanding the commitments that are made about the level of service during the marketing and sales processes to ensure the area is capable of meeting those expectations and that customers’ reasonable expectation of performance and service are met.
What we're looking for
- An understanding of the risk factors for mortality and morbidity, as well as financial Underwriting.
- An understanding of how to request appropriate risk data.
- Thorough knowledge of all protection products.
- Understanding of legislations and regulatory requirements would be preferable.
- Working knowledge of relevant systems and software relevant to your team.
- Knowledge of the complaint’s procedure within L&G.
- Open to changes in processes and other working practices.
- Ability to manage time effectively balancing business requirements with personal development. Ability to manage own time productively and prioritise workload effectively.
- Effective written and verbal communication through all media e.g. telephony, letter writing, participation in meetings, forums and presentations.
- Ability to look at an application holistically, consider each case on its own merits.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy providing the correct terms applicable.
- Ability to anticipate and resolve problems.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Effective coaching and feedback skills, through mentoring, coaching via all communication methods supporting continuous improvement for their peers and colleagues.
- Great ownership skills in all aspects of their role, ensuring responsibilities are covered when they are unavailable.
- Ability to participate in or lead projects, which enhance the underwriting process and improve our systems and commercial viability, including instigating such projects, using own initiative, expertise and business awareness.
