Housing is a major growth opportunity for the Legal & General Group and is a high-profile initiative supported by the Board executive. L&G Affordable Homes was established in 2018 and has become a successful venture bringing institutional equity into the social housing sector whilst delivering great customer experience alongside attractive risk adjusted returns.
Reporting to the Chief Executive and working across the Executive, the Chief Operating Officer will lead the development, sales and operations functions (which comprises lettings, housing management, asset management) across the L&G Affordable Homes business, ensuring the delivery of high performance business operations whilst ensuring great quality customer service outcomes.
The role holder will be responsible for ensuring delivery in accordance with the business plans, leading teams to perform to high standards and overseeing well managed and controlled housing development and operations activities.
The role holder will work collaboratively with the finance, change and governance teams.
- Reporting to the Chief Executive and working across the Executive, lead high performing teams with a focus on high quality commercial management of business activities whilst delivering excellent customer service.
- Lead the delivery of housing development and housing operational and sales activities in accordance with any approved business plan, the risk parameters of the business and in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
- Alongside the Executive, the Boards and the shareholder, develop, agree and deliver the business strategy for business operations and translate the strategy into the annual business planning process.
- Ensure that the pipeline of investment opportunities is secured in line with the approved business plan; adjusting commercial parameters as appropriate to deliver the business growth targets and financial returns. Implement high quality investment management processes so that the financial and business performance of opportunities, post contracting, is properly monitored and managed.
- Input into setting risk limits and compliance parameters for the relevant business areas, oversee the operation of an effective risk management framework and ensuring operations within the risk and compliance parameters, including accurate and timely reporting.
- Lead and embedding engaged teams within a culture of high-quality customer care alongside well managed, controlled and reported business activities. Work with other resources within the business to support the teams to learn and grow and perform to high standards. Identify areas for improvement and implement change programmes to support high performing business activities.
- Lead and maintain relationships with partners to ensure we are a valued and trusted partner and are presented with opportunities as they arise.
- Ensure the commercial, customer, legal and asset data and records in relation to opportunities, schemes, developments, schemes under construction, counterparty relationships, and assets under management are up to date, accurate, and stored in accordance with the business policies and procedures.
- Ensure all operations are delivered, monitored, assured and reported in accordance with all regulatory standards.
Continually promote and ensure compliance with the Group’s Equality and Diversity policy and procedures and always ensure compliance with the Group’s Health and Safety policy and compliance with all health and safety legal responsibilities.
Track record
- Leading the commercial management of complex real estate business divisions with a strong focus on delivering high quality customer services
- Being a collaborative team leader building high performing teams in the residential development and operations marketplace
- Delivering successful change and evolution of teams, incorporating continual improvement, alongside programmes of significant growth.
- Building and maintaining trustworthy relationships with counterparties and the internal project team
- Creating and overseeing high quality financial and business reporting activities
Experience
- Experience in leading the business management of real estate development and investment activities.
- Experience in the strategic planning and operational management of business activities which have a strong customer focus
- Experience in the residential development and operations sector
- Experience in continual improvement within growing business areas.
Degree educated or equivalent.
Excellent academic background, with a numerical aptitude.
