Working as part of the tax leadership team we are recruiting for a Head of International Tax and Transfer Pricing. With the support of four junior roles across the team, the role is responsible for delivering the L&G Group Tax Strategy across our international businesses. This includes leading the delivery of international tax advice, as well as international tax compliance and reporting, and international tax risk management and governance. As part of this the Role Holder will provide innovative, creative solutions to strategic objectives, threats and opportunities.
The role includes monitoring and communicating international tax change and leading the Group’s response to international tax reform. In particular, the role is responsible for monitoring and managing the tax technical aspects of Pillar 2 implementation. Working closely with finance and wider business teams, the role is also responsible for delivering Transfer Pricing strategy, advisory, operational implementation, compliance, and defence in all countries where Legal & General has a presence.
The Role Holder will be expected to:
- Travel to all relevant L&G sites as well as present at various internal committee and Board meetings as required.
- Build relationships with tax advisers and industry peers;
- Represent L&G as required at external forums and with HMRC to ensure L&G’s position is represented and good relationships are maintained.
- Work closely with other senior members of the tax team to ensure the right advice is sourced for the relevant business, the Group Tax Policy is adhered to and the compliance and reporting for the businesses correctly reflect the business and commercial operations.
- The role co-responsible for developing and enhancing the tax team’s profile and effectiveness.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading the delivery of international tax advice across the Group, and ensuring appropriate delivery of all direct tax compliance and reporting globally, excluding the UK.
- Designing, developing and implementing an appropriate transfer pricing strategy that meets the needs of the Legal & General Group.
- Leading the technical workstream for the Group’s implementation of Pillar 2. Working closely with the Tax Compliance & Reporting team to ensure appropriate design, scoping and delivery of the compliance solution.
- Monitoring changes in international tax and transfer pricing rules globally, identifying and implementing associated updates in global compliance.
- Leading the response to tax audits and inquiries by tax authorities globally, excluding the UK. In the UK, leading the Group’s response into enquiries relating to international businesses, such as DPT or Transfer Pricing.
- Reporting into the Group Tax Risk Committee on International tax risk matters and ensuring Business Partners within Group Tax are aware of international tax risks within the divisions for which they hold responsibility, and steps being taken to manage and mitigate those issues.
- Owning the design and implementation of PE and residence risk management, including ownership of operating guidelines, training and ongoing monitoring.
- Working with business partners to identify and support the wider Group Tax team on broader tax issues (including VAT and global mobility) arising out of international tax and transfer pricing matters.
- Supporting other members of the tax team with ad hoc queries, projects and transactions across the wider group as required.
Who we're looking for:
- Qualified Accountant, or with sufficient experience of financial accounting to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.
- Member or fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation or with sufficient tax experience to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.
- Strong technical knowledge of UK Taxes Acts , and in particular in relation to Pillar 2, CBCR and CFC rules.
- Strong technical knowledge of the UK’s Double Tax Treaty network, and in particular in relation to management of PE and residence risk
- Knowledge of the tax aspects of UK GAAP and IFRS.
- Working / background knowledge of the US federal and state tax system, including CAMT and BEAT
- Knowledge of the key reporting requirements of the PRA and other regulatory bodies where appropriate.
- Strong technical knowledge of OECD transfer pricing rules and how these are applied in key markets.
- Develops and maintains knowledge of each of the Group's businesses and how they interrelate, including knowledge of the operational structures of senior management and their reporting lines.
- Experience of negotiation with tax authorities desirable (whether obtained in practice or in-house).
- Ability to communicate complex technical issues in a clear, simple manner to a wide audience and to solve complex problems at short notice.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong relationships with staff, peers and other contacts within the business.
- Ability to practice effective delegation: clear explanations, establish capabilities, use as an opportunity to develop, monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
