What you'll be doing
Join the Corporate Affairs Graduate Programme and gain the essential experience and skills to excel at L&G. You’ll start with a cohort of graduates across the Group (Asset Management, Retail and Institutional Retirement) giving you insights into our business and helping you build a strong professional network.
Over a two-year programme, you’ll rotate across four teams within Corporate Affairs:
- External communications
- Public Affairs & Policy
- Employee Communications
- Group Brand
Through this rotation, you will gain a comprehensive range of experiences across these complementary corporate affairs functions. By the end of the programme, we’d expect you to have a clear vision of where your interests, skills and experience can take you within L&G.
In this full-time role, you’ll receive on-the-job training and coaching from your line manager and the teams within which you work, enhancing your business acumen, learning a wide range of skills and gaining exposure to the broader Corporate Affairs function.
During the programme you will spend time in:
External Communications team: Our External Communications team amplifies L&G’s work to the outside world, predominantly through the media. This supports growth, strengthens market confidence in our strategy, and encourages long-term value creation – all while protecting L&G’s reputation. In this team, you will:
- Help share news with the press about our leaders, people, and business to drive confidence and investment/deal-flow
- Build, shape, maintain and protect L&G’s reputation among shareholders, customers and partners
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with journalists to help support our on-going communications programme across the business
- Help to produce written materials in the form of press releases, articles, case studies and more.
- Monitor the news agenda across key publications, help pitch L&G commentary where relevant and understand activity across the industry
- Work with colleagues and stakeholders across L&G Group to ensure consistency of messaging and alignment of priorities
Public Affairs and Policy team: Our Public Affairs and Policy team work with political stakeholders to shape and enhance our potential on the national and even international stages. The team aims to support policy decisions that help L&G to grow and benefit our customers, and protect L&G’s license to operate. In this team, you will:
- Support proactive advocacy to stakeholder groups that influence policymaking
- Keep internal stakeholders up-to-date on current policy issues and L&G’s Group-wide stance on advocacy efforts
- Communicate L&G’s policy positions to internal and external audiences
- Engage in activities to influence legislation and regulatory changes, while developing and advocating for L&G’s public policy positions to government policymakers and public officials
Brand team: Our Brand team brings L&G to life, managing the development and refinement of our look and feel, our voice, and our style. Ensuring the brand is aligned and representative of our business strategy. This will include:
- Defining our brand on every channel, to ensure that wherever people engage with us they get the same, consistent, positive experience.
- Making sure these channels are easy to use and navigable – be it online, on social media, or beyond
- Produce content and materials for key events and publications – including our full and half-year results
- Governing and protecting the brand to ensure it’s represented correctly to internal and external audiences
Employee Communications team: Our Employee Communications team facilitates better business outcomes by motivating and inspiring our people. In the Employee Communications team, you will:
- Inform and educate our people about our purpose, strategy and focus areas
- Provide an understanding of why those aims exist and how we achieve them together
- Strengthen our culture by embedding our company behaviours in the everyday
- Recognise our achievements and milestones, showcase our brilliant talent, and highlight the breadth of opportunities at L&G
- Update employees on news both big and small – from new tech and office spaces to policy changes
What we're looking for
We are looking for someone with an inquisitive mind and a desire to learn. We’re not expecting prior industry experience, but we’ll want to see that you have the tools to develop quickly. These include:
- 2.1 Degree in any subject – we are open to all subject backgrounds
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to express complex issues succinctly and clearly – this is essential.
- High levels of energy, dynamism and commitment
- Team player, with a strong work ethic, who takes a collaborative and joined-up approach to tasks
- Organised and detail-orientated, with the ability to prioritise effectively, multi-task efficiently and adapt to new situations in a fast-paced environment.
- Self-motivated – A self-starter with the proven ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively
Whatever your role, we reward ability, performance and attitude with a package that looks after all the things that are important to you. Your hard work will be rewarded when you join us.
At L&G, we believe it's possible to generate positive returns today while helping to build a better future for all.
If you join us, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive culture, with opportunities to collaborate with people of diverse backgrounds, views, and experiences. Guided by leaders with integrity who care about your future and wellbeing. Empowered through initiatives which support people to develop their careers and excel.
We care passionately about outcomes rather than attendance and are therefore open to discussing all kinds of flexible working options including part-time, term-time and job shares. Although some roles have limited flexibility due to customer demand, we accommodate requests when we can.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t meet every single criterion in this advert. Instead, think about what you excel at and what else you can bring in terms of strengths, potential and connection to our purpose.
Great news! We will let you know when a new job like this has been added!
